Alan Keyes was in fine form during the Republican debate on Dec 12th, in what some called a "complete hijack of the event" replete with "histronics" and a fair amount of pontificating. He gave answers to many questions, including ones that were not directed towards him (see link 1 below). There have been a variety of responses to his performance at the debate, which generally conclude that it would have been better if he were not invited. Political blogger Rick Moran of the American Thinker noted the debated was "all mismanaged by a brusque, snippy moderator who seemed to think Iowans did not want the candidates to finish their sentences. She seemed to want to ignore Alan Keyes, and when he was skipped over, he piped up and complained, and she allowed him to go on at length after that." The Washington Post agreed with this conclusion, calling it a "Debate in Name Only." Nonetheless, the debate was a good way for Keyes to make his platform issues known, the most salient of which remains his plan to " make sure the executive branch of the U.S. government recognizes the unalienable rights of U.S. citizens, as spelled out in the U.S. Constitution."The theme of most of his answers centered upon his ideas about "restoring the Consitution" and his condemation of elitist politicians. In a typical Keyes-ian remark about a global warming question he quipped, "I think the most emission we need to control is the hot air emission of politicians who pretend one thing and don't deliver."

In recent events Alan Keyes has gotten himself on the Rhode Island, Oklahoma, Illinois, Tennessee Ballots. Alan Keyes has not been included in the Massachusetts ballot. In a World Net Daily interview, Alan Keyes said that the American system of self-governance is under attack, for judges taking away power from the Legislature and from immigrants who do not respect the border and by abolishing the income tax, restore some sovereignty to the people. Keyes said that in his first 100 days of office, he would try to get pro-life legislation passed, set up a border fence and new kind of border patrol. It has been announced that Alan Keyes will be in the last Republican debate. In the World Net Daily interview, Keyes claimed that there is no need for a pro-life amendment in the Constitution because the protection was already there, it was just not being enforced for the unborn.

Alan Keyes Advocates Across America

Alan Keyes has been gaining legitimacy in the Republican race this past week, due to his recent inclusion in the upcoming final Iowa debate. On Wednesday, he graciously accepted an invitation to participate in the crucial final debate scheduled for Dec 12th, noting "I pray to God that my participation in the debate will vindicate [the voter's] good will." Many of his supporters have expressed dismay for Keyes's lack of notoriety. One backer was disgruntled, noting "It's quite sickening to see the best candidate the GOP has running be an "unknown." Because he is an underdog in Republican campaign, the debate will provide Keyes an excellent opportunity to gain recognition in time for the primary.
Keyes has also been active under the auspices of his grassroots organization, "Renew America", a group dedicated to "returning America to its founding principles." He has gained more signatures on his "Pledge for America's Revival" and "Renew America" has recently been active in pro-life efforts, promoting a movie that supports anti-abortion principles. Last week, Keyes was also praised in the highly conservative "America's Revival Lighthouse Report", which outlines a personal testimonial from the director of a pro-life organization voices her support for Keyes and his right-wing policies.
